School Sound Insulation Program
The Midway School Sound Insulation Program is designed to reduce aircraft sound levels in schools surrounding Midway Airport. The goal of the program is to provide schools in the Midway area with sound insulation, which may include noise attenuating windows, additional roofing and ceiling insulation, improved doors, and related measures intended to reduce the transmission of noise into schools.
The Mayor and the Department of Aviation are strongly committed to the School Sound Insulation Program and are ready to provide assistance to schools at each stage of the program. Today, 38 Midway area schools have been sound insulated at a cost of approximately $101 million in federal and airport funding. Three schools are currently in the construction closeout phase.
